For the aging dog, approximately 50% of deaths can be attributed to cancer. As in humans, dog cancer can come in many forms and shapes. Some breeds may even be more pre-disposed like Golden Retriever, Boxer, and Greyhound, mainly for bone cancer.
Dog cancer can affect any part of the body, however, cancers of the skin, blood and bone are most common. Signs can vary depending on type of cancer and location. There are some preventative measures you can take as a diligent pet owner to protect your precious pets.
Avoiding such things such as home and garden pesticides, especially weed killers, have twice the risk as unexposed dogs. Cocoa mulch is another toxic material you should avoid as I wrote previously about… to refresh your memory in the event you missed it go here: http://doggietreasures4u.com/?p=91 Cigarette and second-hand smoke is also a toxic enemy.
Have you ever noticed dogs hanging their heads out the windows of cars? Yes we all have, they love the air blowing in their faces and not to forget… all those smells. Now, did you ever think about all those toxic fumes they are inhaling along the way? Those can cause cancer in humans and pets alike.
Another mistake pet owners make is not providing fresh food that is free from preservatives. When using store bought food you might consider adding fish oil, vegetables, and extra vitamins. It is important to change out their water supply daily to ensure your pets are protected from contaminants left over in their drinking water.
Now you can have peace of mind knowing you have provided the best care for your pets the natural way suffering from cancer.
Until next time,
Keep it Pawsitive,
Karen and Trixie

Thanks Tameka for stopping by hope this will prove valuable to you and your pets.
Thanks Karen for the great tips and reminders. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the dogs I was caring for when I cut down on their “dog food” and added a mixture of rice, veggies and other ” leftovers such as beef juices when I made a roast. The dogs that had skin issues cleared up and the older ones seemed to be more energetic.
Just like with us, too much “junk food” isn’t good for them.
You are so right Kathy, our pets are like us humans in so many ways. I even had to cut back on Trixie’s food as she is getting older, and now she is so full of energy – gotta take care of God’s creatures.
